Oscar-nominated actor and former looked-after child Samantha Morton today launched a government recruitment campaign to tackle the chronic shortages of social workers across England.

Social Work Task Force seeks views on national college

Practitioners asked to respond to questionnaire on how new body would work.  The Social Work Task Force is seeking practitioners' views on the formation of a national college for social work. It has launched a questionnaire on how the college would function and the powers it might have. The questionnaire will close at noon on 15 September.

GSCC raises concerns over lack of checks on social workers

Regulator warns of risk to users over government's failure to require employers to report misconduct to GSCC.  The General Social Care Council has raised concerns over the government's failure to extend new requirements on employers to run checks on social care staff to cover most social workers.

Practice placements with service users

Community Care reports: Views from Sheffield Hallam, Plymouth and Bournemouth universities.
Direct placement of students in the homes of service users can provide insights into personalisation funding, but is the experience broad enough?
The next generation of social workers will need to be at ease with the changes in the role that will result from the increasing personalisation of services - a message that is starting to be taken on board by the institutions charged with training them.

Help for Vulnerable Children and Families in RCT and Merthyr Tydfil

Vulnerable children and families across Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil will soon receive more help and assistance thanks to a new innovative scheme built to strengthen support across Wales. The announcement made by the Welsh Assembly Government will see the creation of new multi-agency teams across the newly created consortium between the two Local Authorities. Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Merthyr Tydfil Council have been selected to jointly drive the development of a single Integrated Family Support service together with Health partners, across both County Boroughs.
